Walmart to invest $11B to remodel stores, add private consult rooms to pharmacy

Perhaps signaling another step into healthcare, retail giant Walmart will remodel 500 stores and open 20 new stores with upgraded pharmacy areas that have private consultation rooms, reports Business Insider.

The majority of the remodels will take place in Florida and Texas, where Walmart will spend a combined $477 million to remodel 82 stores and open 14 new stores. The retailer will also remodel 34 stores in California, 27 stores in Ohio, 14 stores in Virginia, 12 stores in New Jersey and 10 stores in Minnesota.

Walmart told Business Insider that consumers can expect multiple changes with the remodels, including wider aisles, shorter shelving, additional signs, more self checkouts and an updated pharmacy area with private consultation rooms.

Walmart is also bringing online grocery pickup to 1,000 stores and expanding Mobile Express Scan & Go, which lets shoppers pay for items on their smartphones.

"The plan is to continue improving stores and accelerating innovation during the coming year to make shopping faster and easier for our customers," a Walmart spokesperson told Business Insider.
