8 statistics on bad physician behavior

Medscape surveyed 1,500 physicians on negative behaviors they have witnessed physicians undertake outside of work.

About the same percentage of respondents reported witnessing inappropriate physician behavior outside of work from 2021 to 2022, according to the Aug. 19 report. The percentage of respondents who said they have witnessed inappropriate behavior at work or online was up slightly from 2021, however.

Here are the findings from the report on physician behavior outside the office:

  1. 66 percent saw a physician make fun of or disparage someone without their knowledge
  2. 52 percent saw a physician inebriated in public
  3. 45 percent saw a physician bully or harass others
  4. 42 percent saw physicians use racist language
  5. 28 percent saw a physician making unwanted advances toward someone
