Teleflex has launched The Invisible Risk Campaign to educate anesthesiologists and clinicians on the dangers of waste anesthetic gas exposure in post-anesthesia care units, according to the Fort Mill Times.
Currently, ineffective methods of removing waste gases are often used in the PACU, making it difficult to control clinician exposure, according to the report. Anesthetic waste gas leaks from a patient's breathing circuit have potential side effects of nausea, dizziness, headaches, fatigue, birth defects, cancer and kidney disease.
Teleflex, which is a corporate sponsor for the American Society of Anesthesiologists, has developed a mask to protect clinicians and is awaiting FDA 510(k) approval.
