Thirteen physician members of the Congressional GOP "Doctors Caucus" wrote the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services in opposition of the proposal to pay nurse anesthetists for chronic pain management services, according to the American Society of Anesthesiologists.
The physician members of Congress called CMS' proposal "not in the best interests of patients," and maintained that there is no evidence nurse anesthetists are properly educated and trained to perform pain management.
Thousands of ASA members have already submitted comments to CMS opposing the proposal.
