The American Society of Anesthesiologists is recognizing annual Patient Safety Awareness Week from March 3 to 9 to educate patients on the importance of physician-led care.
In addition to promoting Patient Safety Awareness Week, ASA improves patient care through its Anesthesia Patient Safety Foundation and Anesthesia Quality Institute to improve patient care, standardize practice and access care by member providers.
All anesthesiologists must receive 10,000 hours of specialized medical education and training prior to performing anesthesia. During patient safety week ASA will work to inform patients of the safety measures taken for each procedure, according to the release.
