UnitedHealth Group plans to launch a national ACO called NexusACO beginning in 2017, Forbes reports.
What distinguishes NexusACO from its regional counterparts is primarily its scope — the organization will contract with providers in markets around the country. The NexusACO is marketed as a product with a national network. It already has providers in 15 markets signed on to start in 2017, from Richmond, Va., to Chicago to Denver to Los Angeles, according to the report.
The move is unsurprising. UnitedHealthcare, the group's insurance arm, already has 800 active ACO contracts around the country, and competitors are growing their ACO portfolios as well. Aetna has 275 ACOs and counting, according to the report.
