Blue Shield of California, Providence Health & Services, Southern California and its affiliates, Mission Hills, Calif.-based Facey Medical Foundation and Facey Medical Group, announced the formation of a three-year accountable care organization.
The ACO will include three hospitals of Providence Health & Services, Southern California: Providence Holy Cross Medical Center in Mission Hills, Providence Tarzana (Calif.) Medical Center and Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center in Burbank. The ACO will provide coordinated care to approximately 16,500 Blue Shield HMO members assigned to Facey Medical Group physicians, which number more than 160.
The ACO aims to control or decrease healthcare costs for the HMO members and improve quality and efficiency. To achieve these goals, the ACO members will share clinical and case management information, coordinate healthcare services, align incentives and develop quality improvement strategies.
While the program will initially last three years, the organizations plan to continue their partnership to produce sustainable cost savings over time, according to the news release.
