Atlanta-based Emory Healthcare signed an accountable care organization agreement with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Georgia and Blue Cross Blue Shield Healthcare Plan of Georgia Jan. 22.
Through the partnership, Emory is responsible for the cost and quality of the full scope of health services provided to BCBSGa members. Both Emory and BCBSGa are responsible for enhancing care coordination and quality and holding down costs, according to the news release.
Physicians in the Emory Healthcare Network — which includes both employed and independent physicians — will receive information from BCBSGa, including reports on inpatient authorization and gaps in care, that will help prioritize patient outreach.
"This collaborative partnership features incentives for both organizations to achieve improved health outcomes for thousands of Georgians," Morgan Kendrick, president of BCBSGa, said in the release. "This value-based relationship will give Emory physicians access to BCBSGa patient data that will improve care coordination and increase patient engagement."
