Cigna Launches 2 New ACOs

Health insurer Cigna has announced two new collaborative accountable care initiatives, it's version of accountable care organizations: one in Illinois and another in Tennessee.

In Illinois, Cigna partnered with Adventist Health Network, a clinically integrated network of providers who collaborate with Adventist Midwest Health. Adventist Midwest Health is comprised of four hospitals in the Chicago suburbs. The partnership will cover more than 5,000 Cigna members.

In Tennessee, the CAC initiative was formed with the Cumberland Center for Healthcare Innovation, an Advanced Payment Medicare Shared Savings Program made up of 37 medical practices. The initiative will cover more than 2,900 Cigna members.

In both CAC initiatives, Cigna will pay providers for medical and care coordination services. In addition, providers can be paid in a pay-for-value structure if they meet quality and cost targets.
