Cigna has launched new collaborative accountable care initiatives, the payer's version of accountable care organizations, with physicians affiliated with two different organizations in Tucson: Arizona Community Physicians and Arizona Connected Care
The two programs combined cover roughly 12,000 Cigna members who receive care from providers affiliated with either of the two groups.
As part of the CAC initiatives, registered nurses work as care coordinators and are aligned with a team of Cigna case managers to ensure collaboration between the medical groups and Cigna.
Cigna will pay the two organizations for medical care and care coordination services, and there is a "pay-for-value" structure to reward physicians for meeting quality and cost targets.
Both CAC initiatives became effective July 1.
