Cigna, Elliot Physician Network team up on ACO-like model

Cigna and Manchester, N.H.-based Elliot Physician Network launched an initiative Oct. 1 to improve access to care, care coordination, health outcomes, affordability and patient experience.

The accountable care organization-like initiative will cover roughly 10,000 Cigna members who receive care from the networks 100 physicians. Under the agreement, Elliot physicians will lead patients' medical care with the help of registered nurse clinical care coordinators from Elliot. The care coordinators will help patients navigate the system and work with Cigna to gather patient-specific data to support care coordination.

The physician group will be compensated for its services and will have the opportunity to earn additional incentives for meeting quality and cost targets.
