BCBS, Aledade to help independent physicians join ACOs in North Carolina

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina and Aledade — a Bethesda, Md.-based ACO startup — joined forces to help hundreds of physicians in North Carolina launch ACOs.

Independent primary care practices in the following specialties will be eligible to join in 2019: Internal medicine, family medicine and adult general practice.

The collaboration will provide physicians with the tools, technology and data to better manage patient care and costs. BCBS will provide claims data and support while Aledade will offer data analytics as well as tools for care management, patient outreach and navigating regulations. Aledade has helped independent physicians in 18 states launch ACOs.

"Through commercial payer arrangements like this, we're empowering independent physicians to deliver the benefits of value-based care to all of their patients," Farzad Mostashari, MD, CEO and co-founder of Aledade, said in a press release.
