Cigna and the Atlantic Accountable Care Organization, a Morristown, N.J.-based ACO with more than 1,300 physicians spanning five counties, plan to launch a collaborative accountable care initiative, effective April 1.
The CAC initiative is Cigna's version of an ACO, and the two organizations will work together to meet the triple aim of improving health outcomes and the patient experience while lowering costs.
Atlantic ACO's nurses will serve as clinical care coordinators for patients in the CAC. They will be aligned with Cigna case managers to ensure collaboration between the ACO and payor.
Care providers in the CAC can be compensated through a pay-for-value structure if they meet unspecified quality and cost targets.
