Aetna and Marlton, N.J.-based Virtua Medical Group announced Tuesday the launch of a new accountable care organization that will expand on an existing Medicare program.
The current Medicare collaboration serves 2,000 Aetna Medicare Advantage beneficiaries. Under the new accountable care agreement, 16,000 Aetna commercial members will receive more coordinated, value-based care from VMG primary care physicians, according to a statement.
Virtua physicians will have the opportunity to share in savings based on specific quality and efficiency metrics, and will be responsible for the quality and cost of care and patient satisfaction. Aetna will provide nurse case managers to help coordinate outreach, care and follow-up services.
For fully insured Aetna members, the care model went into effect Jan. 1. It will be effective May 1 for self-insured beneficiaries.
