Aetna has announced a new accountable care agreement with New Haven (Conn.) Community Medical Group, an integrated network of 591 care providers.
Under the accountable care agreement, physicians can be rewarded for improving the quality and cost of care through specific measures such as the following:
• Increasing the percentage of Aetna members who receive preventive care and screenings
• Improving the management of patients with chronic diseases
• Reducing avoidable hospital readmissions
• Reducing avoidable visits to emergency rooms
The accountable care organization-like agreement includes about 5,800 fully insured Aetna members in the New Haven area and will expand to include other Aetna members who visit a NHCMG provider in the future, according to the news release.
