Health insurer Aetna and Neptune, N.J.-based Meridian Health have created a co-branded, commercial, product-based accountable care organization.
Here are four things to know about the ACO.
1. It was created through Meridian Health Partners, Meridian's clinically integrated network.
2. The ACO includes physicians who are part of Meridian Health Partners, physicians at Meridian hospitals and affiliated ancillary providers and independent physicians from across Monmouth and Ocean counties in New Jersey.
3. Under the ACO agreement, Aetna will sell a new insurance plan known as Aetna Whole Health-Meridian Health to employers, beginning July 1. According to a news release, the Aetna Whole Health-Meridian Health network includes more than 200 primary care physicians, 700 specialists and six hospitals.
4. Aetna plans to expand the network into other New Jersey counties at a later time.
