100 academic medical center CFOs to know | 2019

Academic medical centers play an important role in the healthcare system today, both in caring for patients across the country and devoting resources to research and innovation for the next generation of treatment.

This list features 100 CFOs of academic medical centers and health systems across the country.

Jennifer Alvey. Senior Vice President and CFO of IU Health (Indianapolis). Ms. Alvey became the senior vice president and CFO of IU Health in 2016 where she oversees and directs the system's financial accounting, reporting, operations and budgeting. She also is responsible for the system's managed care contracting, revenue cycle services, real estate and treasury. Ms. Alvey has previous experience as public finance director of the state of Indiana and chief executive of the Indiana Finance Authority.

Ryon Andersen. Associate Executive Director of Finance for North Shore University Hospital (Manhasset, N.Y.). Mr. Andersen is an integral leader of North Shore University Hospital's financial department. The 766-bed hospital includes more than 4,000 physicians and serves as the teaching hospital for the Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell.

Laurence Appel. CFO of University of Illinois Hospitals & Clinics (Chicago). Mr. Appel became CFO of University of Illinois Hospital and Clinics in 2018, overseeing the system's financial department. He works with the system's leadership to update long-range forecasting and planning. He has experience as the senor director of strategic finance and budget for the system and as executive director and controller of Arlington Heights, Ill.-based Northwest Community Hospital.

Nick Barto. Senior Vice President and CFO of BJC HealthCare (St. Louis). Mr. Barto is responsible for the long-term success of BJC HealthCare's finances, managed care, payer strategy, revenue cycle, supply chain and treasury. The health system has around $5.3 billion in net revenues and employs around 31,000 individuals. Mr. Barto joined BJC in 2018 after spending time as CFO for enterprise business lines at Catholic Health Initiatives in Englewood, Colo.

Gary Bie. CFO and Vice President for Health System Finance and Strategy for Stony Brook Medicine (Long Island, N.Y.). Mr. Bie joined the four-hospital Stony Brook University Hospital in 2011 as CFO after serving as the executive vice president for finance at Nassau Health Care Corp., in East Meadow, N.Y. While there, he led the team that recorded the first surplus for Nassau Health in 2009. Mr. Bie also has experience as the vice president of finance and chief restructuring officer for Bethpage, N.Y.-based Episcopal Health Services.

Francine Botek. Senior Vice President, Finance of St. Luke's University Health Network (Bethlehem, Pa.). Ms. Botek has spent nearly 20 years with St. Luke's University Health Network. She joined the system as vice president of finance in August 2000 and became the senior vice president of finance, overseeing revenue management, policy and integration, reimbursement and payer contracting in 2018.

Michael Breslin. Group Senior Vice President, CFO and Treasurer of NewYork-Presbyterian (New York City). Mr. Breslin became CFO of NewYork-Presbyterian in January 2018. He is responsible for the financial matters at the health system, including revenue cycle, budgeting, reimbursement and cost accounting. Mr. Breslin has previous experience as senior vice president of finance at NewYork-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist and CFO of Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City.

Dawn Bulgarella. CFO of UAB Health System (Birmingham, Ala.). Ms. Bulgarella has more than 25 years of operations and finance experience. She oversees the health system's $3 billion annual budgets and is instrumental in developing the strategic plan for optimized performance across UAB Medicine. She has previous experience with a "Big Four" international accounting and consulting firm and is now engaged as a member in multiple organizational boards and board-level committees.

Kevin Burns. CFO of Houston Methodist. Mr. Burns is responsible for the financial services and activities for Houston Methodist. He joined the health system in 2012 after serving as CFO of University Medical Center in Tucson, Ariz., for eight years and CEO of the system for two years. He has experience with facilities management, supply chain services, budgeting and financial reporting.

Jacqueline Cabe. CFO of UW Medicine (Seattle) and Vice President for Medical Affairs of the University of Washington. Ms. Cabe has spent more than three years as CFO of UW Medicine and vice president for medical affairs at the University of Washington. In this role, she oversees the financial success of the health system, which includes 300 locations. Ms. Cabe has previous experience as a partner with KPMG.

Penny Cermak. CFO of Baylor Scott & White Health (Dallas). Ms. Cermak became executive vice president and CFO of Baylor Scott & White Health, which includes Baylor University Medical Center, in April. She joined the health system in 2012 and has served as senior vice president and CFO for hospitals and clinics. She was also a key leader in helping integrate Baylor Health Care with Scott & White in 2013.

Doug Coffman. Senior Vice President of Finance and CFO of WVU Medicine (Morgantown, W.Va.). West Virginia United Health System named Mr. Coffman CFO in 2015, after her served as vice president of finance and CFO of United Hospital Center in Bridgeport, W.Va. The health system includes 13 hospitals and five specialty institutes.

Craig Collins. Vice President and CFO of UK HealthCare (Lexington). Mr. Collins oversees the financial department for UK HealthCare as the vice president and CFO. The health system includes more than 140 locations and 9,000 physicians, nurses and other healthcare professionals dedicated to patient care. Over the past five years, the health system has turned its strategic plan to focus on developing a patient-centered experience and growing nine service lines, which has required strong administrative leadership from Mr. Collins and his colleagues.

Dennis Dahlen. CFO of Mayo Clinic (Rochester, Minn.). Mr. Dahlen became CFO of Mayo Clinic in 2017 after spending nearly two decades in financial management at other health systems. He has previous experience at Phoenix-based Banner Health, where he rose to the position of senior vice president and CFO, after spending time in financial leadership roles at both Lutheran Health System and Concord Health Services. At Mayo, he is responsible for the financial success of the system's three hospital campuses.

Robin Damschroder. Executive Vice President and CFO of Henry Ford Health System (Detroit). Ms. Damschroder has more than 27 years of experience as a leader in healthcare. She became executive vice president and CFO of Henry Ford Health System after founding a healthcare consulting and advisory business firm. She also has experience as COO of the west market for Saint Joseph Mercy Health System.

Stephanie Daubert. CFO of Nebraska Medicine (Omaha). Ms. Daubert is the CFO for Nebraska Medicine where she oversees the $1.2 billion academic health system's financial operations. Ms. Daubert also has experience on the board of directors for Nebraska Health Network and Nebraska Orthopaedic Hospital. The system includes the 718-bed Nebraska Medical Center as well as 39 specialty and primary care clinics. The system has 8,000 employees and 1,000-plus affiliated physicians.

Brian Dean. Executive Vice President and CFO of Memorial Hermann Health System (Houston). Mr. Dean is responsible for the financial operations of the 19-hospital Memorial Hermann Health System and oversees academic affairs for Memorial Hermann. He has previous experience as the executive vice president of academic affairs and service lines for Memorial Hermann and CEO of Memorial Hermann-TMC campus. He joined Memorial Hermann in 2015.

Peter DeAngelis Jr. Executive Vice President and Chief Financial and Administrative Officer of Jefferson Health (Philadelphia). Mr. DeAngelis became executive vice president and CFO of Jefferson Health in 2016 after spending three decades in executive leadership in the healthcare industry. He has previous experience with IMA Consulting as a partner in their strategic execution practice and executive vice president, CFO and COO of Catholic Health East. In his current role, Mr. DeAngelis oversees financial operations for the health system, including the 908-bed Thomas Jefferson University Hospitals.

Robert DeMichiei. Executive Vice President and CFO of UPMC (Pittsburgh). In his role as executive vice president and CFO of UMPC, Mr. DeMichiei oversees the financial operations of a $20 billion integrated health system. The system includes 40 hospitals and 700 physician offices and outpatient sites as well as insurance services. Mr. DeMichiei has previous experience in executive finance roles with GE.

Lori Donaldson. CFO of UC San Diego Health. Ms. Donaldson is the CFO of UC San Diego Health, responsible for implementing financial strategies, operating and capital budgets as well as financial reporting and controls. She oversees a $1 billion-plus budget and is involved with the University of California's Leveraging Scale for Value initiative. Ms. Donaldson joined UC San Diego Health in 1990 and served as controller for 13 years before becoming CFO in 2010.

Christopher Dunleavy. Senior Vice President and CFO of Brigham Health (Boston). Mr. Dunleavy became senior vice president of finance and CFO of Brigham Health in 2016 after spending time as group senior vice president and CFO of Vizient. His background is in financial management and strategic planning as well as public accounting. During his career, he also spent time as executive vice president and CFO of USMD Holdings.

Chris Ellington. President of UNC Health Care Network and Executive Vice President and CFO of UNC Hospitals (Chapel Hill, N.C.). Mr. Ellington is president of UNC Health Care Network Hospitals and Executive Vice President and CFO of UNC Hospitals at Chapel Hill. He joined the health system in 2008 after spending time as the vice president of fiscal services and CFO of Appalachian Regional Healthcare in Lexington, Ky. He continues to serve on several boards, including the North Carolina Hospital Association.

Anthony Ferrara. Senior Vice Chancellor for Finance of the University of Tennessee Health Science Center (Knoxville). Mr. Ferrara became the senior vice chancellor for finance and operations in September 2005. He has a background in financial for casting and developing business plans, having spent portions of his career as vice president for administration at Binghampton University in New York and vice president for administration and business affairs of University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio.

Mark Fersko. Executive Vice President, Finance of Westchester Medical Center Health Network (Valhalla, N.Y.). Mr. Fersko oversees the financial department for Westchester Medical Center Health Network, which serves around 3.6 million people who populate a 5,000-square-mile area. As a member of the executive leadership team, he plays an integral role in the hospital's strategy to develop a regional, advanced system of care in the Hudson Valley.

Robert Flannery. Senior Vice President and CFO of UW Health (Madison). Mr. Flannery joined UW Health in 2002, overseeing financial development, management and strategy for the health system. He also serves as chief administrative officer for UW Medical Foundation where he provides leadership for administrative, financial and operational strategy. He has experience working with payer relationships, compliance and risk management and revenue cycle management.

Carrie Fuller Spencer. CFO of University of Rochester (N.Y.) Strong Memorial Hospital. Ms. Fuller Spencer became interim CFO at Strong Memorial Hospital in October 2017 and was appointed CFO of Strong and Highland Hospital, both in the University of Rochester health system, in 2018. She has a background in healthcare finances and experience developing and managing annual capital and operating budgets.

Lawrence Furnstahl. Executive Vice President and CFO of Oregon Health & Science University Hospital (Portland). Mr. Furnstahl oversees financial aspects of Oregon Health & Science University Hospital as executive vice president and CFO. He joined the health system in 2009 after spending time as chief financial and strategy officer of University of Chicago Medical Center.

Jeffrey P.Geoghegan. CFO of UConn Health System (Farmington). Mr. Geoghegan oversees the financial operations and transactions associated with UConn Health system, including those for the school of medicine. He has spent more than 17 years at the health system and is responsible for facilitating quarterly budget and financial review meetings as well as developing the capital and operational budgets systemwide.

Steven Glass. CFO and Treasurer of Cleveland Clinic. Mr. Glass joined Cleveland Clinic in 2002 and spent time as the chief accounting officer and controller until 2005 when he became CFO and treasurer. He is responsible for the 11-hospital health system's financial operations. The system includes more than 3,000 employed physicians with the Cleveland Clinic Medical Group. Mr. Glass has previous experience as vice president of finance for MedStar Health.

Robert Glenning. President of the Financial Services Division and CFO of Hackensack Meridian Health (Edison, N.J.). Mr. Glenning spent time as executive vice president and CFO of Hackensack University Health Network before becoming president of the financial services division and CFO of Hackensack Meridian Health. He also served as executive vice president and CFO of Kaleida Health for five years.

Lisa Goodlett. CFO of Medical University of South Carolina Medical Center (Charleston, S.C.). Ms. Goodlett oversees the financial strategy and planning for MUSC Medical Center as CFO. She is responsible for the financial department that supports the 700-bed hospital, including a children's hospital, and level 1 trauma center. MUSC and its affiliates have an annual budget of over $2.3 billion and economic impact of more than $3.8 billion.

David Gruener. Vice President, Finance of UTMB Health (Galveston, Texas). Mr. Gruener joined UTMB Health in December 2016 as vice president of finance for the system. He oversees the four-hospital campus health system's finances after spending 20 years gaining experience in operational finance, accounting, strategic planning and business development. Prior to joining UTMB, Mr. Gruener was CFO of Catholic Health Initiatives' St. Luke's Health in Houston.

Melinda Hancock. Chief Administrative and Financial Officer of VCU Health System (Richmond). Ms. Hancock joined VCU Health System as senior executive vice president and CFO in 2016, and now serves as chief administrative and financial officer. She has previous experience as partner of the healthcare practice Dixon Hughes Goodman LLP. In her current role, Ms. Hancock is responsible for the financial department of the health system, which includes an academic medical center, level 1 trauma center, five schools and more than 800 physicians.

Kristine Hanscom. CFO of Tufts Medical Center (Boston). Ms. Hanscom became CFO of Tufts Medical Center in 2016 after spending time as interim CFO and vice president of finance. She has experience overseeing a team of more than 250 people and guiding strategic decisions on business investments. During her career, she was instrumental in preparing for the hospital's first bond issue, which helped the hospital raise $210 million.

James Hatcher. CFO of Emory Healthcare (Atlanta). Mr. Hatcher became CFO of Emory Healthcare in 2004, overseeing the financial operations for the 11-hospital health system. He previously spent nine years as CFO of Emory Hospital and had previous experience as the regional controller for SunHealth and Gateway Medical Systems. Emory has now grown to include 2,800 physicians and 250 locations.

Scott Hawig. Executive Vice President and Chief Financial and Administrative Officer and Treasurer of Froedtert Hospital (Milwaukee). Mr. Hawig oversees the strategic and operational matters for finance and administration of the health system. He takes on financial planning and budgeting, financial reporting, revenue cycle management, supply chain operations and insurance products and risk. He has previous experience as an executive with Duke University Health System in Durham, N.C.

Mark Henrichs. CFO of UI Hospitals & Clinics (Iowa City, Iowa). Mr. Henrichs is responsible for financial planning and reporting at the UI Hospitals & Clinics, an 811-bed hospital that cares for 37,000 inpatients annually. The system has more than 200 outpatient clinics and employs around 1,752 physicians, dentist, residents and fellows.

Rick Hinds. Executive Vice President and CFO of UC Health (Cincinnati). Mr. Hinds became executive vice president and CFO of UC Health in 2010. He has previous experience as CFO of the Health Alliance of Greater Cincinnati and vice president of finance for University Hospitals in Cincinnati. He now oversees the financial operations of UC Health, which includes two hospitals as well as an 800-plus physician group.

David Ho. Vice President and CFO of MedStar Georgetown University Hospital (Washington, D.C.). Mr. Ho has been vice president and CFO of MedStar Georgetown University Hospital for more than two years. In this role, he oversees the financial department for the 609-bed hospital. He has previous experience as senior vice president and CFO of White Plains (N.Y.) Hospital and leading hospital finances for SUNY Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn.

Linda Hoff. CFO of Stanford Health Care (Palo Alto, Calif.). Ms. Hoff is the CFO of Stanford Health Care, overseeing the system's financial strategy, planning and reporting. She joined the health system in 2017 after serving as senior vice president and CFO of Legacy Health, where she also was the lead executive on the system's 50 percent ownership of Pacific Source Health Insurance. She has more than 30 years of experience, previously holding the senior executive vice president and CFO role for Meriter Health Services.

Joseph Hoffman III. Senior Vice President and CFO of University of Maryland Medical Center University (Baltimore). Mr. Hoffman is responsible for improving the financial outcome and performance of the University of Maryland Medical Center. He supports the system's mission of providing quality care and a great patient experience, spearheading the important decisions around capital investments and operating expenses. He has previous experience as vice president and CFO of University of Maryland Upper Chesapeake Health.

Daniel Isacksen Jr. Regional CFO of Loyola Medicine (Maywood, Ill.). Mr. Isacksen joined Loyola Medicine in 2013 and spent time as regional senior vice president of finance and treasurer before being promoted to regional CFO in 2019. He has previous experience as CFO of Chicago-based Alexian Brothers Health System's physician enterprise and vice president of finance and controller for St. Anthony Hospital. He also spent time as the controller and director of finance for Loyola University Physician Foundation.

Raju Iyer. Senior Vice President and CFO of UCSF Health. Mr. Iyer oversees the financial strategy and services for UCSF Health, which includes financial reporting, capital management, decision support and revenue cycle. His responsibilities also extend to health information management services for the health system and its affiliated physician networks. Prior to joining UCSF Health in 2018 he was regional CFO for Providence St. Joseph Health in Northern California.

Keith Kasper. Senior Vice President and CFO of University of Pennsylvania Health System (Philadelphia). Mr. Kasper supports the health system's mission by overseeing its financial strategy, operating plan, and budgeting process. During his tenure, the health system has integrated financial services to support the system's business objectives and spearheaded the system's efforts on developing an efficient, customer-focused financial processes and systems.

James Kelly Jr. Senior Vice President and CFO of UF Health Shands (Gainesville). Mr. Kelly oversees the long-term financial planning for UF Health Shands, including capital formation, treasury, finance and receivables. He also is responsible for the system's risk-based products and materials management and purchasing. He has previous experience as the corporate controller at Partners HealthCare in Boston.

Mark Krieger. Vice President and CFO of Barnes-Jewish Hospital (St. Louis). Mr. Krieger spent two years as vice president and CFO of Sara Lee Bakery Group before joining Barnes-Jewish Hospital in 2004 as the vice president and CFO. He has also spent time in corporate planning and financial leadership at Anheuser-Busch Cos. At Barnes-Jewish Hospital, he oversees the financial department for the hospital, which includes an 1,800-member medical staff.

Angela Lalas. Senior Vice President for Finance and CFO of Loma Linda (Calif.) University Health. Ms. Lalas became the senior vice president of finance for Loma Linda University Health in 2015 and was promoted to CFO in 2018. She has experience overseeing the six-hospital health system's finances and directing the Loma Linda University Foundation. Prior to joining Loma Linda in 2006, Ms. Lalas was a senior tax consultant for Deloitte.

Dennis Laraway. CFO of Banner Health (Phoenix). Mr. Laraway became the CFO of Banner Health in 2017 after spending time as the executive vice president and CFO of the 19-hospital Memorial Hermann Health System. While there, he oversaw a $5 billion-plus annual budget. He also has experience as CFO of Scott & White Healthcare in Temple, Texas, and CFO for two other hospitals in Phoenix.

Mark Larmore. CFO of The Ohio State Wexner Medical Center (Columbus). Mr. Larmore oversees a multibillion-dollar budget as the CFO of the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center. He is responsible for providing treasury and real estate operations oversight for the health system. Mr. Larmore has previous experience as the group senior vice president, CFO, treasurer and president for Royal Charter Properties at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital.

Brittany Lavis. Market CFO of Detroit Medical Center. In 2018, Ms. Lavis was appointed CFO of Detroit Medical Center after spending time as the CFO of Placentia-Linda Hospital, both part of the Tenet network. She also spent time as the CFO for seven hospitals in Tenet's Southern California Group, boasting an annual revenue of $1.7 billion. Ms. Lavis has a background in improving revenue cycle metrics and streamlining activities.

Kevin Lenahan. Senior Vice President and Chief Financial and Administrative Officer of Atlantic Health System (Morristown, N.J.). Mr. Lenahan became CFO of Atlantic Health System in 2010; since then, the system has grown into an organization with $2.7 billion in annual revenue. The system employs around 16,000 people and it achieved Moody's Aa3 rating under Mr. Lenahan's leadership. Mr. Lenahan also serves as president of Atlantic Health's insurance company.

John Lewis. CFO of UNC Health Care System (Charlotte, N.C.). Mr. Lewis was CFO for UNC Hospitals for three years before he became executive vice president and CFO of UNC Health Care System. He is responsible for the financial health of the system's hospitals, including the 950-bed medical center in Chapel Hill, as well as its physician network and school of medicine. Mr. Lewis has previous experience as a consultant for a strategy consulting firm.

Tom Lichtenwalner. Senior Vice President, Finance of St. Luke's University Health Network (Bethlehem, Pa.). Mr. Lichtenwalner oversees the financial operations for St. Luke's University Health Network, which includes 10 hospitals and more than 315 outpatient sites. The system supports more than 14,000 employees and 1,800 physicians and practitioners.

Stacey Malakoff. Executive Vice President and Treasurer of Hospital for Special Surgery (New York City). Ms. Malakoff has spent the bulk of her career at Hospital for Special Surgery, where she now oversees financial operations as executive vice president and CFO. The 215-bed hospital has 45 operating rooms and supports a 386-member active medical staff. Ms. Malakoff is responsible for the hospital's $1.15 operating expense budget.

Peter Markell. Executive Vice President of Administration and Finance, CFO and Treasurer of Partners HealthCare (Boston). Mr. Markell is responsible for the financial operations at Partners HealthCare, where he manages the information systems, real estate, treasury and human resources. In November, the health system launched rebranding efforts and a new five-year strategic plan with a focus on value-based care. Mr. Markell has previous experience as an audit partner at Ernst & Young and was interim CFO at Massachusetts General Hospital.

Michael Marquardt. CFO of Hospital and Clinic Operations of UVA Medical Center (Charlottesville). Mr. Marquardt became CFO of Hospital and Clinic Operations of UVA Medical Center in August 2019. He has previous experience as chief of staff for the executive vice president for health affairs of the health system. In his current role, Mr. Marquardt oversees financial planning and the hospital's annual budget.

Tim Maurice. CFO of UC Davis Health (Sacramento). Mr. Maurice is responsible for the $1.6 billion annual budget of UC Davis Health. He also oversees financial operations including budgeting, financial planning, patient registration, billing and collections and accounts payable. He joined the health system in 2011 after serving as vice president and CFO of Oxnard, Calif.-based St. John's Regional Medical Center and Camarillo, Calif.-based St. John's Pleasant Valley Hospital.

Sergio Melgar. Executive Vice President and CFO of UMass Memorial Health Care (Worcester). Mr. Melgar became executive vice president and CFO of UMass Memorial HealthCare in 2014, after spending time as CFO of international operations in Santiago, Chile, for Christus Health, based in Irvine, Texas. He is responsible for the system finances, IT and other key corporate functions. The health system includes 1,125 beds in its hospitals, 1,700 physicians on staff and 13,000 total employees.

Cecelia Moore. CFO of Vanderbilt University Medical Center (Nashville, Tenn.). Ms. Moore joined Vanderbilt University Medical Center in August 2013 after spending time as the vice president of finance and COO for the patient Revenue Management Organization within Duke University Health System in Durham, N.C. She was later appointed CFO of the health system while it more than doubled its operating income. In 2016, the Nashville Business Journal honored Ms. Moore with a CFO Award.

John Mordach. Senior Vice President, Finance and CFO of Rush University Medical Center and Rush University System for Health (Chicago). Mr. Mordach oversees the strategic vision and management for Rush's financial operations. He protects the system's assets, treasury function and revenue cycle reporting as well as oversees the financial planning and budgeting. Mr. Mordach has been in healthcare financial management for more than 38 years and spent time as CFO of two other academic medical centers before joining Rush in 2011 and then becoming CFO in 2017.

Kenneth Morris. Senior Vice President, CFO and Treasurer of Duke University Health System (Durham, N.C.). Mr. Morris joined Duke University Health System in 2000 as senior vice president, treasurer and CFO. He oversees the financial functions of the health system, including the financial planning, revenue cycle, payer relations, real estate and insurance. He has previous experience as CFO of Asheville, N.C.-based Mission Health and Chicago-based Loyola University Health System.

John Orsini. Senior Vice President and CFO of Northwestern Memorial HealthCare (Chicago). Mr. Orsini has spent more than 30 years of his career in healthcare finance, currently serving as senior vice president and CFO of Northwestern Memorial HealthCare. The system has hundreds of locations in the Chicago area as well as 4,400 aligned physicians. He has prior experience as executive vice president and CFO for Cadence Health and CFO of the 12-hospital Presence Health in Chicago.

Charlton Park. CFO and Chief Analytics Officer of University of Utah Health (Salt Lake City). Mr. Park is responsible for the financial planning, budgeting and accounting for University of Utah Health. He also oversees the system's capital financial planning, analytics and revenue cycle. Mr. Park was also among the key players in developing the health system's Value Driven Outcomes initiative and various integration models across clinical departments.

Connie Prewitt. CFO of Billings (Mont.) Clinic. Ms. Prewitt is responsible for the financial management of Billings Clinic. She has a background in project management and personnel management for multispecialty groups and hospital organizations. Billings Clinic includes a 304-bed hospital and level 2 trauma center as well as 4,000 staff members and 400-plus physicians. 

Edward Prunchunas. Executive Vice President of Finance and CFO of Cedars-Sinai Medical Center (Los Angeles). Mr. Prunchunas is responsible for the financial operations at Cedars-Sinai. He oversees financial planning, reporting, capital planning and risk management. He spent time as CFO of Northridge Hospital Medical Center and on the Ernst & Young consulting staff prior to joining Cedars-Sinai in 1981 as director of budget and reimbursement.

Dan Rieber. CFO of UCHealth (Aurora). Mr. Rieber oversees the financial department for UCHealth, which reports $4.5 billion in operating revenue and a workforce of 23,500 people. The 12-hosptial health system has experienced consistent bond rating improvements over the years. Mr. Rieber joined the system in 2007 as director of finance and controller of University of Colorado Hospital and then became the CFO of UCHealth Memorial in 2014. He was promoted to system CFO in 2018.

Charmaine Rochester. Senior Vice President and CFO of Chester County Hospital (West Chester, Pa.). Ms. Rochester became the senior vice president of finance and CFO for Chester County Hospital in 2017 after spending 25 years in public and industry accounting. She was named Philadelphia Business Journal's 2018 CFOs of the Year. The hospital, which is part of Penn Medicine, includes 248 inpatient beds and continues to grow.

Brigette Rose. CFO of LSU Health Sciences Center-Shreveport (La.). Ms. Rose joined LSU Health Sciences Foundation in 2018 and now oversees the health system's finances. She has previous experience as the hospitals department of neurosurgery business director. The health system recently announced a $60 million expansion project on a center for medical education and wellness to address the healthcare workforce charges.

Donald Scanlon. Chief of Corporate Services and CFO of Mount Sinai Health System (New York City). Mr. Scanlon was appointed executive vice president and CFO of Mount Sinai Medical Center in 2003, and he has taken on increasing responsibilities as the health system has grown. When he joined the system, Mount Sinai and its school of medicine were losing $150 million per year, and Mr. Scanlon was an integral leader in the system's turnaround to achieve positive net income for both institutions two years later. The success continues to present day. In addition to his responsibilities with the health system, he completed $370 million financing for the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai for a new center for science medicine and $145 million of financing to support an adjacent residential tower.

Jay Sial. CFO of UC Irvine Health (Orange, Calif.). Mr. Sial is an experienced hospital finance executive, currently serving as CFO of UC Irvine Health and its 417-bed acute care hospital. The health system supported 786,917 outpatient visits and 21,173 patient discharges in 2018. He has previous experience as executive vice president and CFO of Loyola University Health System in Chicago and CFO of UK HealthCare in Lexington.

Michael Serber. Vice President of Finance and Institutional CFO of UT Southwestern Medical Center (Dallas). Mr. Serber joined UT Southwestern Medical Center in 2003 and he now oversees the financial activities of the health system. He also directs seven financial and operational departments, including supply chain management and real estate services. In 2016, Mr. Serber was also named treasurer for all Southwestern Health Resources legal entities.

Daniel Smith. Vice President of Finance and CFO of Johns Hopkins Hospital (Baltimore). Mr. Smith began working with Johns Hopkins in the 1980s as a healthcare consultant, officially joining the staff in 1983. He took on increasing responsibilities for budgeting and financial analysis over the next few decades before he became CFO of Johns Hopkins Home Care Group in 2001. He now serves as vice president of finance and CFO of The Johns Hopkins Hospital and Johns Hopkins Health System, where he is responsible for the financial health of six hospitals, four suburban healthcare and surgery centers as well as more than 40 other locations.

George Sprinkle. CFO of George Washington University Hospital (Washington, D.C.). Mr. Sprinkle became CFO of George Washington University Hospital in 2015 after spending time as the CFO of the 270-bed Gateway Medical Center, based in Tennessee. He previously held CFO roles at Baptist Health Care in Florida and Mercy Regional Medical Center in Colorado.

Paul Staton. Senior Vice President and CFO of UCLA Health (Los Angeles). Mr. Staton became CFO of the health system in 1996 and now oversees the financial operations for the health system. The health system includes four hospitals, UCLA Health Clinics, the faculty group and David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA.

Richard Swaine. CFO of The University of Toledo (Ohio) Medical Center. Mr. Swaine joined UTMC in March 2019 after spending 30 years in healthcare finance and administrative leadership. As CFO of the hospital, he is responsible for the financial operations of the hospital and its clinics. He has previous experience at Beaumont Health in Southfield, Mich., where he spent time leading the health system's post-acute services.

Michael Szubski. CFO of University Hospitals (Cleveland). Mr. Szubski became the senior vice president and CFO of University Hospitals in 2008 after serving as the system's COO for acute care hospitals. He now oversees the financial department for the health system and its 1,032-bed tertiary medical center. The system includes 28,000 physicians and employees and reports 142,000 inpatient discharges annually.

Vincent Tammaro. Executive Vice President of Financial and Corporate Services and CFO of Yale New Haven (Conn.) Health. Mr. Tammaro joined Yale New Haven Health in 2002 as director of financial reporting and since then has been promoted to executive vice president of financial and corporate services and CFO of the system. He has experience with acquisitions and integration support and completed the GE Health Management Academy fellows program in 2014.

Paula Tinch. Senior Vice President and CFO of Penn State Health (Hershey, Pa.). Ms. Tinch joined Penn State Health in June as senior vice president and CFO. She is responsible for the health system's financial planning, financial risk management and revenue cycle. Prior to joining Penn State Health, Ms. Tinch was senior vice president of finance for Rochester (N.Y.) Regional Health, where she was responsible for core functions and aspects of the $2.2 billion health system.

Michael Tramonte. Senior Vice President and CFO of UT Health (Houston). Mr. Tramonte joined UT Health in 2004 as assistant vice president of finance and controller and since then has been promoted to senior vice president and CFO. He is responsible for the financial department at UT Health, which includes a hospital, medical school and clinical practices.

James Uli Jr. CFO of Keck Medicine of USC (Los Angeles). Mr. Uli joined Keck Medicine of USC in 2018 as CFO after spending time as the CFO of Providence Saint John's Health Center and John Wayne Cancer Institute. He also has experience as the division chief officer of Loma Linda (Calif.) Medical Center – Murrieta. Mr. Uli's background is in finance, budgeting, revenue cycle and contracting.

Rick Vincent. Senior Vice President and CFO of The University of Vermont Medical Center and The University of Vermont Health Network Medical Group (Burlington). Mr. Vincent took on his current role with the University of Vermont Medical Center and University of Vermont Medical Group in 2015. He is responsible for the financial operations of the health system and 600-member physician group. He has previous experience as vice president of finance for UVM Medical Group.

David Vranicar. Vice Chancellor for Finance and CFO of University of Kansas Health System (Kansas City, Kan.). As vice chancellor for finance and CFO of the University of Kansas Medical Center, Mr. Vranicar works closely with the executive leadership systemwide to develop and implement a financial plan that supports the system's strategic vision. He has experience executing long-term strategic financial plans as well as developing and administering budgets. Mr. Vranicar has previous experience as the president and CEO of Kansas Bioscience Authority.

Jennifer Wakem. CFO of University Medical Center (Las Vegas). Ms. Wakem has nearly three years of experience as CFO of University Medical Center of Southern Nevada. She oversees the financial health of the hospital, which includes a level 1 trauma center that cared for around 12,500 patients in 2016. She has previous experience as associate CFO of Tenet Healthcare.

Nelson Weichold. CFO of UMMC Health System (Jackson, Miss.). Mr. Weichold oversees the financial department for UMMC Health System, which is the state's only academic medical center. It includes a hospital campus, level 1 trauma center, and physician group with around 500 members. UMMC also supports around 10,000 full and part time employees and reports an annual budget of $1.6 billion.

Doug Welday. CFO of NorthShore University HealthSystem (Evanston, Ill.). Mr. Welday joined NorthShore in 2018 as CFO. He is responsible for the four-hospital health system's capital structure as well as safeguarding the capital assets. Prior to joining NorthShore, he spent time as vice president of finance for Grand Rapids, Mich.-based Spectrum Health and financial leadership roles at Oakwood Healthcare System in Dearborn, Mich.

Bonnie White. CFO of University of New Mexico Hospital (Albuquerque). Ms. White oversees the finance department at UNM Hospital, part of the UNM Health System, which includes the only academic medical center in New Mexico. The system cares for around 200,000 patients per year and handles about 22,000 surgical cases annually.

Daniel Widawsky. Senior Vice President, Vice Dean and CFO of NYU Langone Health (New York City). Mr. Widawsky oversees the hospital and medical school financial departments for NYU Langone Health. He joined the system in 2018 after spending his career in financial strategy and planning for major institutions. Mr. Widawsky spent time as comptroller for the city of Chicago and director of investment firm EFO Capital.

Christine Williams Bond. CFO of University Medical Center New Orleans. As CFO of University Medical Center New Orleans, Ms. Williams Bond oversees the financial department for the 446-bed hospital. She has previous experience as assistant CFO of Atlanta Medical Center and controller at Emory Johns Creek (Ga.) Hospital.

Jeanette Wojtalewicz. CFO of CHI Health (Omaha). Ms. Wojtalewicz has more than 30 years of experience in healthcare finance and is a past president of the Healthcare Financial Management Association in Nebraska. In her role as CFO of CHI Health, Ms. Wojtalewicz oversees the financial operations of a 14-hospital, 800-employed physician health system. She also serves on the Nebraska Health Care Database Advisory Committee and is a past chair of the finance operations leadership council for CHI.

Stuart Wright. CFO of Upstate University Hospital (Syracuse, N.Y.). Mr. Wright oversees the financial functions for Upstate University Hospital. He has experience with budgeting, financial analysis, cash and investment management and revenue cycle management. Mr. Wright also oversees the patient access services and health information management.
