Rural hospitals have been facing immense financial pressures as they deal with rising inflation and the COVID-19 pandemic.
The 10 states with the highest percentage of rural hospitals at risk of closure, according to a report from the Center for Healthcare Quality and Payment Reform:
- Hawaii: 75 percent
- Connecticut: 67 percent
- Alabama: 60 percent
- Mississippi: 54 percent
- Kansas: 53 percent
- Texas: 50 percent
- Oklahoma: 46 percent
- Arkansas: 46 percent
- Tennessee: 44 percent
- New York: 41 percent
