Michigan Medicine (Ann Arbor). Michigan Medicine's sustainability efforts are overseen by its Environmental Stewardship Steering Committee, which is responsible for implementing conservation efforts across the health system. The hospital installed occupancy sensors for lighting and ventilation control and developed policies to ensure building and furnishing materials contain low or no volatile organic compounds. Michigan Medicine also requires all new buildings, additions and construction projects meet LEED Silver certification standards. The Ann Arbor-based C.S. Mott Children's and Von Voigtlander Women's Hospital, which opened in December 2011, were the first Michigan Medicine facilities to receive a LEED Silver designation. The health system received Practice Greenhealth's 2017 Greenhealth Partner for Change Award for its efforts.
