St. Cloud (Minn.) VA Health Care System. St. Cloud VA Health Care System is engaged in several energy and water saving projects that led to an estimated $54,506 institutional savings on energy costs in 2016. St. Cloud VA upgraded its laundry system last year to reduce the amount of water used by 12,750 gallons per month and a paper conservation initiative that reduced paper purchases by 8.5 percent. Previous successful greening efforts include an initiative to eliminate mercury from the hospital and policies to prevent it from re-entering the facility. The hospital has mercury-free purchasing and management practices and implemented staff education to ensure St. Cloud VA remains mercury-free. St. Cloud VA Health Care System has received numerous awards for its green initiatives, including the 2017 Practice Greenhealth Top 25 Environmental Excellence Award and LEED certification for green building.
