Magee-Womens Hospital of UPMC (Pittsburgh). Magee-Womens Hospital of UPMC is a sustainability leader with its Green Team calling the shots. The neonatal intensive care unit uses plastic materials that are both DEHP- and PVC-free, and the hospital's food service unit replaced its plastic and foam containers with biodegradable corn and paper products. The hospital implemented an extensive recycling program, employed the use of nontoxic cleaning products, and remodeled its antepartum and postpartum units using sustainable and environmentally friendly materials. Yet, Magee-Womens Hospital of UPMC didn't stop there; the system's 2009 expansion was awarded LEED Silver certification in 2013. Practice Greenhealth recognized the hospital as one of its 2017 Greenhealth Partner for Change award winners.
