Gundersen Health System (La Crosse, Wis.). Gundersen Health System made a commitment in 2008 to control rising energy costs by improving efficiency and creating cleaner energy to reduce consumption. In October 2014, Gundersen became the first health system in the nation to achieve energy independence. Gundersen Health System, which has established recycling, energy conservation, renewable energy and waste management programs, received Practice Greenhealth's Top 25 Environmental Excellence Award for the 11th consecutive year in 2017.
