Erie (Pa.) VA Medical Center. Almost 8 percent of Erie Veterans Affairs Medical Center's energy comes from renewable sources, which helped its cut energy use by 13 percent in one year. In 2016, the 54-bed hospital reduced water consumption to 18.5 gallons per square foot of facility space. The hospital also incorporated environmentally friendly design elements into new energy efficient elevators, began construction of a higher efficiency boiler plant and embarked on a stormwater retention project. Practice Greenhealth honored the hospital with the Circles of Excellence for water and leadership as well as Top 25 Environmental Excellence Award in 2017.
