Dell Children's Medical Center of Central Texas (Austin). Dell Children's Medical Center of Central Texas was the first hospital in the world to achieve LEED Platinum certification, which holds buildings to the highest level of environmental scrutiny. The hospital is located on 32 acres of land, 20 percent of which is dedicated to open vegetated space. Its facility features reflective roof materials to reduce the amount of energy needed for air conditioning; rainwater drainage to a stormwater pond that serves as natural filtration into the groundwater table; and high-efficiency motion sensor lights to save power. Together, its low flow bathroom fixtures and native landscaping irrigation save the hospital 3.1 million gallons of water each year.
