Virginia Mason Hospital & Medical Center (Seattle). Virginia Mason's commitment to sustainability dates back to the 1980s, when it started recycling. Now, its formal environmental stewardship initiative is known as EnviroMason and the hospital boasts a Green Team and sustainability director. From 2011 through 2015, the hospital diverted more than 4,439 tons of waste from landfills, avoided using 7.3 million gallons of water and 4.5 million kilowatt hours of electricity, among other accomplishments. This year, Virginia Mason was recognized as one of Practice Greenhealth's Top 25 Environmental Excellence Award winners.
