Advocate Health Care (Downers Grove, Ill.). Advocate formed in 1995, following a merger between Evangelical Health Systems Corp. and Lutheran General HealthSystem. Today, this faith-based healthcare system is a large integrated health system in Illinois with more than 450 care sites, including 12 acute care hospitals. The system is one of the largest employers in the Chicagoland area, with more than 35,000 employees including 6,300 affiliated physicians and 11,000 nurses. Truven Health Analytics named it among the 15 Top Health Systems in the U.S. in 2014 and the American Heart Association honored Advocate with the Worksite Innovation Award in 2013 to 2015. In 2015 the health system raised more than $434,000 for the AHA's Metro Chicago Heart Walk.
