Anne Schuchat, MD. Acting Director of the CDC. Dr. Schuchat began her career in public health in 1988 as an epidemic intelligence service officer with the CDC. The acting CDC director has played critical roles in several CDC emergency responses, including the H1N1 pandemic influenza response in 2009, the SARS outbreak in Beijing in 2003 and the 2001 bioterrorist anthrax attacks. Dr. Schuchat assumed the role of acting director after the customary resignation of Tom Frieden, MD, in January 2017 upon the inauguration of President Donald Trump.
