Paul Rothman | 183 nonprofit hospital and health system CEOs to know 2017

Paul Rothman, MD. CEO of Johns Hopkins Medicine (Baltimore). As both CEO of Johns Hopkins Medicine and the Frances Watt Baker, MD, and Lenox D. Baker Jr., MD, Dean of the Medical Faculty of The Johns Hopkins University, Dr. Rothman oversees the six-hospital health system and medical school. He is also responsible for the system's community physicians and self-funded health plan. He joined Johns Hopkins in 2012 after serving as the dean of the Carver College of Medicine at the University of Iowa in Iowa City. A physician by training, Dr. Rothman has a background in molecular immunology. His research focuses on cytokines, which are immune system molecules, and his work has been funded by the National Institutes of Health. He was elected to the National Academy of Medicine in 2016 and served as the president of the Association of American Physicians for 2014-15.
