Lou Shapiro. President and CEO of Hospital for Special Surgery (New York). Mr. Shapiro has led Hospital for Special Surgery, a hospital devoted to orthopedic surgery and treatment, since 2006. Under his leadership, the hospital has been ranked No. 1 in the nation for orthopedic care by U.S. News & World Report for eight consecutive years, most recently in the 2017-18 rankings. In 2016, the hospital cared for 131,000 patients, a 6 percent growth over the previous year. Mr. Shapiro has over 30 years of healthcare leadership experience, previously serving as executive vice president and COO of Danville, Pa.-based Geisinger and as board chairman of the Greater New York Hospital Committee. He currently serves on the boards of Crutches for Kids, Move Mountains Foundation and Prep for Prep. Mr. Shapiro earned his master's degree in health administration from the University of Pittsburgh.
