Richard Afable, MD. Executive Vice President of St. Joseph Health Southern California Region and President and CEO of St. Joseph Hoag Health (Irvine, Calif.). Dr. Afable became CEO of St. Joseph Hoag Health and executive vice president of St. Joseph Health Southern California Region in 2013 when Newport Beach, Calif.-based Hoag Hospital, which he led as CEO for eight years, affiliated with St. Joseph Health. However, he plans to retire from both posts in December 2017. Dr. Afable has been an influential figure in California healthcare throughout his career, championing innovative partnerships and serving vulnerable populations. He is chair-elect of the California Hospital Association and immediate past chair of the Hospital Association of Southern California. Post-retirement, Dr. Afable plans to devote time to mental health advocacy and form a coalition to expand mental health services in Orange County, Calif.
