Ralph de la Torre, MD. Chairman and CEO of Steward Health Care System (Boston).In 2010, Dr. de la Torre founded Steward Health Care System, a privately owned healthcare services organization and community hospital network that includes 10 hospital campuses and approximately 3,000 physicians. In May, Steward Health Care signed the definitive agreement to acquire Franklin, Tenn.-based IASIS Healthcare for around $1.9 billion. Under this deal, Steward is slated to become the largest for-profit hospital operator in the U.S., operating 36 hospitals in 10 states, and for the first year of consolidated operations the system is expected to log nearly $8 billion in revenues. Dr. de la Torre is a cardiac surgeon by training and previously served as chief of cardiac surgery at Boston-based Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and CEO of the hospital's CardioVascular Institute.
