Marsha Rappley | 112 Physician Leaders to Know 2017

Marsha D. Rappley, MD. Vice President of Virginia Commonwealth University Health Sciences and CEO of VCU Health System (Richmond). Dr. Rappley became vice president for health sciences of Virginia Commonwealth University and CEO of VCU Health System in August 2015. Prior to joining VCU Health, Dr. Rappley spent 10 years as dean of Grand Rapids-based Michigan State University's College of Human Medicine, where she doubled the college's federal research funding and grew endowments by 80 percent over a four-year period. She also served as a tenured professor of pediatrics and human development at MSU before climbing the ranks to become interim chair of the college's pediatrics and human development department. Dr. Rappley is considered a national leader in patient safety, with previous experience chairing the FDA's pediatric advisory committee and serving on board of directors for the Association for Accreditation of Human Research Protection Programs.
