Kurt Newman, MD. President and CEO of Children's National Health System (Washington, D.C.). Dr. Newman became president and CEO of Children's National Health System in 2011. He joined Children's National in 1984 as a surgical fellow, and in 2003 transitioned to surgeon-in-chief of the Joseph E. Robert, Jr. Center for Surgical Care at Children's National. Dr. Newman was a trailblazer in the 2009 formation of Children's National's Sheikh Zayed Institute for Pediatric Surgical Innovation — a targeted effort toward making pediatric surgery less invasive — and became founding vice president of the center. Dr. Newman has also focused on academics throughout his career and currently serves as a professor of surgery and pediatrics at Washington, D.C.-based George Washington University School of Medicine and Public Health.
