Massachusetts General Hospital | 100 Hospitals with Great Heart Programs 2015-16

Massachusetts General Hospital (Boston) has a long history of providing excellent cardiac care: The hospital opened one of the nation's first dedicated cardiac units in 1916 and has made significant contributions to cardiology ever since, from pioneering the development of pacemakers to developing the first-of-its-kind heart monitor to detect and treat arrhythmias. Today, the Magnet-recognized hospital's Corrigan Minehan Heart Center serves as an international referral center for complex cases, such as thoracic aortic disease, cardiac resynchronization therapy and hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. The hospital was ranked No. 5 nationally for cardiology and heart surgery by U.S. News & World Report for 2015-16, and U.S. News & World Report also recognized the hospital as high-performing for heart failure and bypass surgery in its common care ratings.
