Norton Healthcare, a nonprofit system consisting of five Louisville hospitals with 1,837 licensed beds, provides neurological services through the Norton Neuroscience Institute and the Norton Leatherman Spine Center, which were both founded in 2009. The health system employs 20 neurologists as well as 10 adult neurosurgeons, three pediatric neurosurgeons and 14 orthopedic spine surgeons who perform more than 5,868 neurosurgery and spine surgery procedures annually. On average, the health system sees 25,027 unique neurology patients, 14,524 neurosurgery patients and 15,581 unique spine patients per year. The hospital ranked No. 11 in the nation for major neurological surgery on CareChex's 2018 rankings.
