Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center (Houston). Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center is home to the Mischer Neuroscience Institute, which saw 5,347 patients in 2017. Surgeons at the medical center — 13 adult neurosurgeons, six spine surgeons and three pediatric neurosurgeons — performed 1,635 spine surgeries in 2017, making its spine program one of the largest in the Houston area. Mischer Neuroscience Institute, which received $7.6 million in research funding in fiscal year 2017, was among the first facilities in the U.S. to conduct a national, multicenter trial for hypothermia as a result of head injury. In 2017-18, U.S. News & World Report ranked Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center among the top 50 hospitals in the nation for neurology and neurosurgery.
