Massachusetts General Hospital | 100 hospitals & health systems with great neurosurgery and spine programs | 2017

Massachusetts General Hospital (Boston). The 32 neurosurgeons who comprise Massachusetts General Hospital's neurosurgery department treat between 70 and 90 patients per day, an impressive volume for any institution. Mass General's surgeons perform more than 2,500 neurosurgical procedures annually, which helped earn the hospital recognition as the No. 3 institution in the country for adult neurology and neurosurgery, according to U.S. News & World Report's 2017-18 ranking. Mass General includes a 17-bed neurosurgical intensive care unit and is one of around 36 sites in the world that provides proton beam therapy for patients. The hospital's spine service is acclaimed in its own right, and in 2016 the hospital partnered with the Newton-Wellesley Hospital spine program to send 20 staff members for Lean efficiency training with the ultimate goal of improving clinic workflow and patient care.
