The department prides itself on providing advanced technology for spinal procedures aimed at reducing complications, including navigation technology and intraoperative imaging equipment. The hospital serves as a Level I trauma center that is a regional and national referral center for adult and pediatric patients who suffer spinal injuries. U.S. News & World Report ranked Duke University Hospital among the top 50 hospitals in the nation for neurology and neurosurgery in 2017-18.
