The 865-bed VCU Medical Center's department of orthopedic surgery sees approximately 60,000 patients and performs almost 6,500 procedures annually. As the only Level 1 trauma center in the region, VCU Medical Center can accommodate a wide variety of orthopedic injuries and conditions. The American Association of Critical-Care Nurses honored VCU's department of orthopedic surgery inpatient ward the Beacon Award for Excellence twice from 2014-17. U.S. News & World Report ranked VCU Medical Center among the top 50 hospitals for orthopedics for 2017-18.
