University of Maryland St. Joseph Medical Center (Towson). University of Maryland St. Joseph Medical Center, a 224-bed Catholic acute care hospital, sees 25,000-plus orthopedic patients annually. UM St. Joseph Medical Center is known as a high-volume orthopedics hospital, with its surgeons performing over 1,600 joint replacements per year. The hospital's Orthopaedic Institute is designated as a Blue Distinction Center for hip and knee as well as spine surgery. The institute includes a 50-bed orthopedic unit equipped with 32 private rooms and a rehabilitation facility as well as the Scoliosis & Spine Center, which treats 10,000-plus patients with spinal disorders annually.
