UCLA Medical Center and Orthopaedic Hospital (Santa Monica, Calif.). The Orthopaedic Hospital and UCLA forged a strategic partnership in 1998, creating the UCLA/Orthopaedic Hospital Department of Orthopaedic Surgery. The National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin awarded the UCLA Department of Orthopaedic Surgery one of eight $1.2 million NIH Institutional Training Grants, which the department is using to support four postdoctoral fellows in musculoskeletal medicine's research efforts for a five-year span. UCLA Medical Center and Orthopaedic Hospital, a 265 inpatient-bed facility, provides space for clinical care and includes the J. Vernon Luck Sr., MD, Orthopaedic Research Center. U.S. News & World Report ranked UCLA Medical Center and Orthopedic Hospital among the top 50 hospitals in the nation for orthopedics in 2017-18 and Blue Cross Blue Shield Association designated the hospital a Blue Distinction Center for hip and knee replacement surgery.
