The Johns Hopkins Hospital's orthopedic surgery program employs more than 250 team members, including 35 faculty members spanning 11 orthopedic specialty areas and more than 40 advanced practice providers. In fiscal year 2017, the program served 87,000 orthopedic patients, and surgeons performed more than 8,100 surgeries. Founded in 1900, the orthopedic surgery department offers a specialized sports medicine program for female athletes, groundbreaking research from its Center of Musculoskeletal Research and numerous fellowships in pediatric orthopedics, shoulder surgery and spine surgery. In addition, the Johns Hopkins Hospital ranks No. 11 in the nation for adult orthopedics on the 2017-18 U.S. News & World Report rankings.
