NYU Langone Orthopedic Hospital. NYU Langone Orthopedic Hospital, formerly called the Hospital for Joint Diseases, is the 225-bed inpatient orthopedic hospital of NYU Langone Medical Center, a Manhattan-based teaching hospital. In 2011, NYU Langone began participating in the CMS Bundled Payment for Care Improvement pilot initiative. After three years, the hospital reported lowering the length of stay for total joint replacement patients from 3.58 days to 2.96 days, and the average readmissions dropped from 7 percent to 5 percent. The hospital also reduced costs per episode of care from $6,228 to $742. U.S. News & World Report ranked NYU Langone Medical Center No. 8 in the nation for adult orthopedics.
