Baystate Medical Center (Springfield, Mass.). The 716-bed Baystate Medical Center was one of the first in Massachusetts to utilize a computer-assisted navigation system to improve surgical performance and alignment during total joint replacement surgery. The hospital also contributes one member of its orthopedic staff to the Baystate Trauma Services Program, in which orthopedic trauma surgeons begin treating patients at the outset to manage secondary injuries concurrently with life threatening ones. The facility is a Blue Cross Blue Shield Association Blue Distinction Center+ for knee and hip replacement, and CareChex ranked Baystate the No. 2 hospital in Massachusetts for orthopedic surgery in 2018.
