The UVA Neurosciences Center has several areas of focus, including neurodegenerative diseases, neuro-oncology, a stroke center and a spine center. Clinicians at UVA's Spine Center perform more than 1,500 spine procedures each year. The hospital has been recognized for excellence in spine surgery, as it received the Spine Surgery Excellence Award for 2015 and 2016 from Healthgrades and was named in the top 50 in the nation for spine surgery by CareChex in its most recent ratings. UVA Medical Center was also named high-performing in neurology and neurosurgery by U.S. News & World Report for 2015-16.
