UNC Hospitals is the first and only health system in the country to maintain a freestanding inpatient care unit for women with postpartum depression or other perinatal mood disorders. U.S. News & World Report ranked UNC Hospitals among the top 15 hospitals in the nation for gynecology for 2016-17. The health system's Women's Hospital received a Baby-Friendly designation from Baby-Friendly USA and is the only hospital in North Carolina's Triangle region to offer 24/7 in-house midwifery care.
