University of Kentucky Albert B. Chandler Hospital (Lexington). University of Kentucky Albert B. Chandler Hospital is home to the Markey Cancer Center, which was established in 1983. Markey earned National Cancer Institute designation in July 2013, becoming the only NCI-designated cancer center in the state. University of Kentucky launched the Kentucky Cancer Registry within Markey Cancer Center in 1990 and began adding its data to the NCI Surveillance Epidemiology and End Results registry in 2000. U.S. News & World Report ranked Markey among the top 50 cancer centers in the nation for 2017-18.
