University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics (Iowa City). The 707-bed University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics is home to the Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center, which was founded in 1980. The center coordinates all cancer-related research, education and patient care efforts between the University of Iowa's 41 departments and six colleges. Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center also records elements of patient history and treatment in an oncology registry to help physicians and researchers investigate cancer outcomes and treatments. The National Cancer Institute designated the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics a comprehensive cancer center in 2000 and U.S. News & World Report ranked University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics among the top 50 hospitals for cancer care in 2017-18.
