Lifespan (Providence). Four Rhode Island-based hospitals and the East Greenwich, R.I.-based Lifespan Ambulatory Care Center contain branches of Lifespan Cancer Institute, which provides care to 4,000 newly diagnosed cancer patients annually. In March 2017, Lifespan entered an agreement with Boston-based Dana-Farber Cancer Institute to coordinate bone marrow transplant treatment and expand access to clinical trials. Lifespan's patients now receive bone marrow transplants at Dana-Farber/Brigham and Women's Cancer Centers and the additional care surrounding the transplants is provided at Lifespan locations. Lifespan Cancer Institute has received the American College of Surgeons' Commission on Cancer outstanding achievement award as well as designation from Blue Cross Blue Shield Association as a Blue Distinction Center for Complex and Rare Cancers.
