Moffitt Cancer Center and Research Institute (Tampa, Fla.). H. Lee Moffitt opened Moffitt Cancer Center and Research Institute in 1986 as a 364,000-square-foot hospital dedicated to cancer care. Over the past three decades, Moffitt Cancer Center has grown into a 2.5 million-square-foot enterprise that served more than 56,000 patients in 2016. The National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive cancer center supports 350,000 outpatient visits and 19,000 new cancer patients annually that travel from every state in the U.S. for care. Today Moffitt employs more than 800 scientists, researchers and support staff devoted to cancer research. U.S. News & World Report ranked Moffitt Cancer Center No. 9 in the nation for cancer care in 2017-18.
